Virginia M. (Emerson) Wilcox
Almond -- Virginia M. (Emerson) Wilcox, 72, formerly of Karr Valley Road, Almond, died late Wednesday evening (April 30, 2003) at the Wellsville Manor where she had resided for the past two months.
Born in Greenwood, NY. on April 29, 1931 she was a daughter of Elwin and Luella (Gayhart) Wheaton. Over the years she had resided in several locations, but lived most of her life in the Almond area.
Virginia had been employed at Loohn's Cleaners in Hornell and later worked in the housekeeping department of the former Bethesda hospital. She had been a communicant of St. Brendan's church of Almond.
She was married in 1952 to James F. Emerson who died in 1979. She later married Fred G. Wilcox who died in 1999.
Surviving are four sons, James (Judy) Emerson of Almond, Joseph (Carolyn) Emerson of Aztec, NM., Steven (Roxanne) Emerson of Little Genesee, NY., and Carl (Donna) Emerson of Almond, one brother Richard Wheaton of Ransomville, NY., three sisters, Irene (Bernard) George of Angelica, Shirley (Chuck) Fox of Almond and Janice (Gene) Briggs of Hornell, seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Virginia was also preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Miller and Linda Stuck, her brother Robert Wheaton and her grandson, Bradley James "BJ" Emerson.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church Street, Hornell where funeral and committal services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Gene Ulrich officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Almond.
