Welcome to Research
As you can see from viewing the choices at the left, the Research Section of this website offers a deep look into the facts about Allegany County's past.
In this section we can provide you with information about our fascinating History, or, if you would like to learn more about some of our colorful people, check out our Biographies section. We have some older Census information for your review when trying to trace that allusive ancestor. The amount of Cemeteries data, big and small, will astound you.
The Genealogy section will continue to grow with your contributions in the future.
Amongst others, we also provide much information about Obituaries, Burials, and our brave Veterans.
Choose from the list on the menu or type specific keywords into the Search box.
We try to assist at a one-on-one level in your research as we have time at Allegany County Historical Society. Since we are volunteers we sometimes take a while to answer, but, contact us and share information with us.
If you can help us expand this area go to the tab, “About Us” for contact information or join the Message Board for involvement.

Further Research - DNA Testing
Some are finding that DNA testing offers a helpful supplement to their research. It's important to be aware that these tests aren't necessarily 100 percent accurate. Although the tests can offer further insight, there is no substitute for actual historical and genealogical research. For a helpful comparison of several available DNA testing services, we suggest taking a look at:
