Military History. — Cadet at the Military Academy, July 1, 1846, to July 1, 1850, when he was graduated and promoted in the Army to Bvt. Second Lieut. of Dragoons, July 1, 1850. Served: on frontier duty at Albuquerque, N. M., 1850‑51, — Ft. Defiance, N. M., 1851, — Ft. Worth, Tex., 1852‑53, — Ft. Leavenworth, (Second Lieut., 2d Dragoons, Oct. 11, 1851) Kan., 1853, — Ft. Worth, Tex., 1853, — and Ft. Belknap, Tex., 1853‑54; on sick leave of absence, 1854‑57; on frontier duty at Ft. Leavenworth (First Lieut., 2d Dragoons, Mar. 3, 1855) Kan., 1857, — Utah Expedition, 1857‑59, — Quartermaster, 2d Dragoons, Aug. 4, 1858, to June 24, 1859, — and Ft. Laramie, Dak., 1859‑60; on Recruiting service, 1860‑61; and on leave of absence, 1861‑62. Captain, 2d Dragoons, May 9, 1861: 2d Cavalry, Aug. 3, 1861. Served during the Rebellion of the Seceding States, 1862, in Operations (Colonel, 1st Vermont Cavalry Volunteers, Feb. 14, 1862) in Shenandoah Valley. Died, Apr. 5, 1862, near Strasburg, Va.: Aged 35. |
