L. Ferd Shear of Beech Hill Road, Willing, died Friday in Lumberton, N.C. unexpectedly. He was born in Willing on September 21, 1898, the son of C. Frank and Winnie Phillips Shear. He was a farmer, a former town supervisor of Willing, and the retired Allegany County highway superintendent. He was also a veteran of WW I and a member of the Morrison-Hayes Post in Wellsville, the Yorks Grange, the Wellsville F&AM Lodge No. 230, the Corning Consistory, and the Ismailia Shrine Temple in Buffalo.

Surviving him are his wife, Hazel; a son Raymond of Angelica; a daughter, Mrs. William (Barbara) Koschera of Groveland; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; one brother William of Wellsville; five sisters, Mrs. Ellis (Helen) Gath of Wellsville, Mrs. Roger (Freda) Scott of Buffalo, Mrs. Kenneth (Ruthe) Plain of Pompeo Beach, Fla., Mrs. Nathan (Norma) Swarthout of Allentown, Mrs. John (Lenora) Slack of Whitesville; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call today 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Angelica where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. David Olcott of the Angelica Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville. Masonic services will be tonight at 7 p.m. and memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
