James H. (Jim) Scott

Belfast – James H. Scott, 85, of the Back River Road died Thursday (July 28, 1994) shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville.

Born April 12, 1909 in Bolivar, he was the son of Harlan J. and Hazel D. McKee Scott. In 1928 in Franklinville, he married the former Myrtle Abbott, and in 1975 he married the former Rosemary Gruner, who died in 1975. On July 23, 1989 in Hume, he married the former Belah A. Smith, who survives.

He attended Friendship and Cuba rural school districts. Also he attended St. Bonaventure Prep School. From 1933 to 1968 he owned and operated dairy farms located in the Town of Friendship and in Transit Bridge. At age 16 he became a livestock dealer running his business in Western New York area for many years, retiring in 1985. From 1967 to 1975 he was a trucker for the Teamster’s Union in the area. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church of Belfast, Loyal Order of the Moose #8560 of Dansville, the Robert W. Howden #1504 American Legion of Belfast and the Belfast Liesure Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, James Dean (Marilyn) Scott of Belfast; two step daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Elvina M. ) Turner of Savonia and Mrs. Julie Grunert of Elmira; four step grandchildren; and nine step great-grandshildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Winchell.

Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. todayl. Funeral services will be held beginning with prayers at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church. The Rev. Francis J. Jann, pastor, will be celebrant and burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Belfast. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home..
