Pauline "Polly" B. Sanford
Pauline B. "Polly" Sanford, 92, of Almond and most recently a resident of Mercycare in Hornell,died Saturday (September 9,2000) at St. James Mercy Hospital.
Born October 3, 1907, in the Town of Burns, the daughter of Adelbert and Grace Bailey Sanford. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Carmen Benthin and Vera Brown.
Polly was a graduate of Geneseo Normal and Buffalo State College, where she received her bachelor of arts degree. She taught at the former Alfred High School, later teaching elementary grades at Alfred-Almond Central School, retiring after 25 years in 1965.
She was a life-long resident of Almond, and was a member of the Almond Historical Society and the Twentieth Century Club. A member and longtime Sunday school teacher of the Almond Union of Churches, she also served on several church boards.
She is survived by a niece, Lois Benthin of Batavia; a nephew, Lynn (Marion) Benthin of Apalachin; several cousins; two great-nieces and one-great nephew.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Robertson Funeral Home, Inc., Hornell, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with Michelle Ormsby officiating.
