MESQUITE, TX. -- Richard Allan Howard, 53, died Wednesday (April 23, 2003) in Mesquite.

He was born June 29, 1949 , in Cuba, NY. a son of Lloyd E. Howard and Eva M. Morton. On July 9, 1983, in Little Genesee, NY. he married Gloria J. Weimer who survives. Mr. Howard is also survived by a son, Jonathan (Tammy) Howard and four daughters, Dawna (Jeffrey) Pryor of Dallas, TX., Tracy (Douglas) Golish of Comwall, NY. ,Tammy (J. Carlos) Delgado of Dallas, and Tara (Jeffrey) Hunt of Allentown, NY. In addition Mr. Howard is survived by five grandsons, and eight granddaughters, four sisters, Eva M. Howard of Wellsville, NY., Cheryl A. Fleming of Allegany, NY., Sonya K. Morris of Wellsville, Connie Howells of Friendship, NY., three brothers, Lawrence Hardbuck of Danbury, CT., Everett Mulkin of Seattle, WA., and Roy Howard of Oceanside, CA., his grandmother Hazel Morton (age 102) of Rushford, NY. and a favorite aunt, Ruth Hurd of Richburg, NY.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Rick was a police officer for nine years and worked in the oil fields of Allegany County, NY. Upon moving to Texas, Rick entered the construction business doing excavation and demolition. Rick was an avid shooter and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He taught all of his grandchildren to enjoy shooting and loved to take them to the range to shoot "golfballs," his idea of golf. He was a member of the Muzzle Loaders Association of Dallas and the Terrell Gun Club Terrell, TX.,

He became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on July 26, 1992. Rick and Gloria were sealed in the Dallas Temple on September 4, 1993. Rick served as Young Mens Secretary, Stake Missionary, Asst. Ward Mission Leader, Ward Mission Leader and Elders Quorum President in the Church. He believed his greatest calling was that of Stake Volunteer Prison Coordinator. Rick had visited at the Seagoville Federal Prison since 1995.

Rick will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

A funeral service was held April 26, 2003 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mesquite, with the Bishop Michael Norton officiating. Burial was in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Dallas.
