Wirt couple to note 50th
Neighbors, friends and family are invited to a reception for Howard and Alberta Wightman from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Inavale Grange Hall, in celebration of their 50th wedding Anniversary.
Howard Wightman and Alberta Burrows were married Jan. 1, 1934 at her family home in the Town of Wirt. Attending the couple were Edward Wightman and Marion Burrows.
A retired farmer, Mr. Wightman also served as highway superintendent in the Town of Wirt for several years and was employed at Acme Electric in Cuba. Currently he serves as a town councilman and is writing the history of the Town of Wirt.
The couple have been active in the Grange, having been members of Inavale Grange for over 50 years. They have served in many offices in Allegany County Pamona Grange, and Mr. Wightman was a special deputy to the New York State Grange Master from 1957 to 1962.
The couple have two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Marcia) Hint and Mrs. Allan (Carol) Taylor, both of Friendship; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
